Vital bus services delivered during rail closures

Thames Travel has enhanced bus services to further support passengers during rail closures on the Oxford to Didcot line.

The Thames Travel X32 service between Oxford and Didcot has been increased to include Sundays and bank holidays for the duration of the rail line closure – and if it proves to be a success the additional timetables willbe maintained.

Passengers are also reminded that in addition to rail replacement coach services Thames Travel and Oxford Bus Company provide various services connecting Oxford, Didcot and Reading for passengers impacted by the closure of Nuneham Viaduct. Additionally, city35, X2, X32 and River Rapids X40 services run frequently throughout the day and passengers can take advantage of the government-funded £2 cap on all adult single tickets.

Thames Travel’s X2 and X32 services operate between Oxford City Centre and Didcot Parkway, providing up to five departures per hour.

The X32 provides a fast service from St Aldates to Didcot Parkway via the A34, it operates up to every 30 minutes Monday to Saturday and hourly Sundays and bank holidays, with the journey taking approximately 30 minutes. The X2 operates via Abingdon, Drayton and Steventon, every 20 minutes between Monday and Saturday and every 30 minutes on Sundays and bank holidays.

While the River Rapids X40 service operates between Oxford and Reading up to every 30 minutes and the city35 service operates between Oxford and Radley rail station up to every 20 minutes.

We have increased our X2 service which operates between Oxford and Didcot to include Sundays and bank holidays. Additionally, we have several bus services that are providing people with decent travel alternatives should they not wish to use the rail replacement coach services. With the current government's £2 cap on single adult bus fares people can also save money on their travel.”
