CityZone ‘Get Around for £1’ bus travel initiative extended by Oxford Bus Company

Teenagers are being encouraged to board Oxford’s buses when exploring the city and its surrounds this summer by Oxford Bus Company as part of a continued travel initiative.

The bus operator has set all fares on CityZone routes to £1 for passengers aged 18 and younger who hold a Get Around Card. 

Launched in 2017, the card is eligible for all Oxford Bus Company, Thames Travel and Pulhams services within the CityZone. The zone covers all routes inside the ring road, plus services to Kidlington, Botley, Cumnor, Hinksey Hill, Kennington, Blackbird Leys, Horspath, Barton and Wheatley.

Travel for £1 is unlocked by purchasing a card, either online or at Oxford Bus Company’s Gloucester Green travel shop, for £15. Cards are valid for three years, with users typically making savings after completing eight journeys. 

Luke Marion, Managing Director of Oxford Bus Company, said: “Get Around for £1 has been a flagship initiative to incentivise young people to travel sustainably since its launch almost a decade ago. 

“If a Get Around Card user is travelling to school or college – or to meet up with friends and family during the holidays – every journey in our CityZone is capped at £1, making travel by bus a cost-effective and environmentally friendly solution.

“It’s tremendous value, and an offer we encourage everyone aged 18 or younger to take full advantage of – especially during the summer months where Oxford and the city’s surrounds has so much to offer to local people and visitors alike.

“Even better, cards remain valid for three years or to the end of the month for a person’s 19th birthday – whichever comes first.” 

To apply for a Get Around Card, passengers will need to provide proof of age – either a passport, birth certificate or driving licence – and a passport-sized photograph if applying in a travel shop.
