Service changes from 4th September 2022

Following a network review conducted in association with Oxfordshire County Council, we will be introducing several changes to our bus services from 4th September 2022. Some services will be improved, some amended and others retained at their current level using funds from the council and local developers.

Further details on each route can be found below.

cityX1

Oxford City Centre - Abingdon, Dunmore Road - Abingdon Town Centre - Marcham - Grove - Wantage

We are delighted to announce the enhancement of the X1 service linking Oxford and Abingdon with Wantage via Marcham and Grove. The service will increase in frequency, now operating up to every 30 minutes on Monday to Saturday, with the Sunday service remaining hourly. The X1 will now also be operated by Oxford Bus Company instead of Thames Travel.

The poorly used section of the route between Oxford City Centre and Headington will be withdrawn.

Within Abingdon, the service will have a new route, between Lodge Hill and Abingdon Town Centre, operating via Dunmore Road, Wootton Road and Bath Street. Passengers from Abingdon Town Centre towards Wantage will need to board from the bus stop on the High Street rather than the current stop on Stratton Way. Buses towards Oxford will continue to use the existing stop on Stratton Way.

For a trial period of at least six months, the X1 will be routed via Hinksey Hill and Bagley Wood rather than operating direct via the A34 between Redbridge Park&Ride and Lodge Hill.

On Monday to Friday, one trip in the morning will begin at Blackbird Leys, Pegasus Road at 07:33 operating via Sandy Lane West, Eastern By-Pass and Iffley Road to Oxford City Centre where it will then follow its normal route. This journey will be suitable for those attending Abingdon and Witney College, with a return trip which will operate as service C1 departing Abingdon Town Centre at 16:30. This journey will follow the normal X1 route to Oxford, Canning Crescent and will then operate via Donnington Bridge, Iffley Road, Eastern By-Pass, and Garsington Road to Blackbird Leys.
