Service Changes from 16th April 2023
We will be making changes to the timetables of several Oxford Bus and Thames Travel services from 16th April 2023 to deliver a more reliable service for our customers.
Changes to buses that serve Botley Road were implemented on 11th April 2023 due to the closure of the Botley Road rail bridge. Find out more here.
IMPROVED X32 Sunday service
We are pleased to be able to enhance the Sunday and Public Holiday service on connector X32 to provide a fast and direct hourly service between Didcot Parkway and Oxford City Centre and Rail Station. This is in addition to the existing Sunday and Public Holiday service between Didcot and Wantage, and is being introduced to provide extra capacity due to the increase in passenger numbers we are experiencing as a result of the closure of the Nuneham Viaduct on the Oxford-Didcot rail line. This enhancement will ensure that our connector X2 service, which also runs between Didcot Parkway and Oxford City Centre and Rail Station, can continue to offer the required capacity for residents of the towns and villages it connects.
There are no changes to the Monday to Saturday X32 route or timetable, where buses will continue to operate up to every 30 minutes between the JR Hospital, Oxford City Centre, Milton Park, Didcot, Harwell Campus and Wantage. Similarly, on Sundays and Public Holidays, there will be no changes to the times of connector X32 between Wantage and Didcot, but we wish to advise customers travelling onwards to Oxford City Centre and Rail Station that they will need to change buses at Didcot Parkway.

Due to further extended journey times, we need to revise the city11 timetable. We have reviewed this in partnership with Oxfordshire County Council and there will be changes to the timetable throughout the day on weekdays and Saturdays, with the gaps between journeys increasing at certain times of the day to allow our buses to complete their journeys on time. There is no change to the Sunday timetable.

We need to make some minor changes to the timetable to ensure that we are operating as punctually as possible. The late evening service will now be more consistent throughout the week. The trial school holiday timetable that we ran during the February half term was successful, allowing our buses to run on time with quicker journey times due to the reduced school traffic on the roads in the afternoon peak. Therefore, we will make this arrangement permanent.

River Rapids X39, X40 & NX40
We have worked in partnership with Oxfordshire County Council to run a revised timetable, building in additional running time across the day to more accurately reflect the time it now takes our buses to complete their journeys.
As part of this improved timetable, all River Rapids journeys will now run as services X40 or NX40, improving the frequency of buses serving Woodcote. We have also reviewed the Sunday service, and the short journeys between Oxford and Wallingford will no longer operate due to low patronage. We will continue to offer an hourly X40 service between Oxford, Wallingford, Woodcote and Reading, which better meets the demand on a Sunday.
All services to and from Reading on weekdays and Saturdays will now serve Highmoor Road, Albert Road, Priest Hill and Caversham Library on Hemdean Road in both directions which is great news for customers wishing to make these local journeys. Sunday services will continue to run via the current route to and from Reading, running via St Peter’s Hill towards Wallingford and Oxford.
Within Reading, most buses will serve a wider loop of the town centre, providing more direct links to the Oracle and Riverside shopping and leisure areas. These trips will also serve Friar Street. You can find a map of our new route within Reading here. Late evening and Sunday journeys will continue to terminate at Station Road, and these are clearly shown on the timetable.
