People in search of a spook-tacular adventure in Oxford can learn more about the area’s gruesome history this Halloween by experiencing one of the city’s interactive ghost tours.
The Oxford Ghost Tour will take visitors back in time and uncover the most haunted and historic parts of the city with insights led by a pastime figure dressed in authentic cavalier attire.
Daring guests will be treated to terrifying stories from previous centuries and learn more about hauntings and executions with ghost sightings not ruled out while strolling Oxford’s eerie and narrow streets.
The tour celebrates its fourth year this month and will be operated by CitySightseeing Oxford, owned by Oxford Bus Company, on three successive nights with the launch happening on Thursday 31st October from 5.30pm.
Follow-up tours on Friday 1st November and Saturday 2nd November, are also scheduled for 5.30pm with each experience starting from City Sightseeing Oxford’s Visitor Information Centre.
Clarisse Garcia, Retail and Tourism Manager at CitySightseeing Oxford, dared curious locals and visitors to dive into the city’s spooky goings on.
“Our Ghost Tours have proven really popular since their launch, and this year will be no different,” said Clarisse. “While everyone is familiar with the modern foundations of our great city, not everyone is aware of its spooky past.
“From haunting stories of executions and sightings of ghosts which patrol our cobblestone streets and buildings, our tour reveals all.
“While bringing some fright to your evening, our tour is entirely family-friendly and suitable for children in search of some Halloween-based fun. Three tours will be operated this year with space available on a first come first served basis so book it now to avoid disappointment!”
Luke Marion, Managing Director of Oxford Bus Company, added: “The Oxford Ghost Tour has gone from strength to strength since its launch in 2021.
“We’re privileged to operate in a city with so much history attached to its world-famous streets and buildings and our team really bring this to life through their detailed knowledge and enthusiasm of Oxford’s past, good and bad!
“Halloween provides the perfect excuse to learn more about Oxford’s gruesome history and experience the spooky side of the city we all supposedly know so well.”
To add to the Halloween spirit, CitySightseeing Oxford’s Visitor Information Point on High Street in Oxford will be decorated with staff handing out free treats for visitors to enjoy. Tour guide Andrew Pritchard will also delight passengers on board the CitySightseeing Oxford Bus Tour with a spooky Halloween take on the experience with tours departing at 10.55am and 1.55pm.
