Oxford Bus Company operating shuttle bus service to support Oxford Half Marathon

Oxford Bus Company will be operating a special shuttle bus service to support runners and volunteers participating in this weekend’s Oxford Half Marathon.

The service will run from both Pear Tree and Redbridge Park & Ride sites, plus a special temporary Park & Ride at Unipart to University Parks.

Shuttles will start at 7am on Sunday and people are advised to arrive by 7:30am to allow runners, volunteers and supporters enough time to get to the start of the charity run.

Oxford Bus Company driver Mark Temple will be among the thousands of runners taking part, starting the 13.1 miles in the city centre and passing through Old Marston village, along the River Cherwell, past the University of Oxford’s Lady Margaret Hall, before finally finishing on Parks Road.

Mark is running in support of Sobell House, who cared for his dad and his wife’s grandmother before they sadly passed away. Oxford Bus Company is sponsoring Mark’s efforts this weekend.

Last year Mark embarked on a half ironman contest in Somerset, which consisted of a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike ride and a half marathon. Next year, he is setting himself the challenge of cycling from Anfield, the home of Liverpool Football Club, to the Kassam Stadium in one day, for charity.

Luke Marion, Managing Director at Oxford Bus Company, said: “More than 10,000 people are set to take part in this weekend’s Oxford Half Marathon, a wonderful event where runners represent a variety of charities through a scenic route across our city.

“As was the case in previous years, we are keen to support the event and are providing an increased Park & Ride service to provide convenient and affordable travel.

“We encourage people to plan their journey in advance and check the timetables on the Oxford Bus Company website, and we of course wish all participants, including Mark, the very best of luck.”
