More than 1,600 votes cast to decide where Christmas Light Bus will visit

5 months ago Thu 11th Dec 2025

The routes for where a festive open-top double-decker bus will visit have been revealed following a public vote.

Decked out with hundreds of twinkling lights, the popular Christmas Light Bus will soon be taking to the streets of Oxfordshire.

A public vote, which saw 1,659 people take part, has decided where the City Sightseeing Oxford vehicle will tour between 4pm and 8pm on 12th, 13th, 19th and 20th December.

On Friday, the Christmas Light Bus will visit Kennington between 4:20pm and 4:30pm, followed by Abingdon, Drayton, Sutton Courtenay and Milton.

The bus is then due to arrive in Didcot at 6pm, before continuing to Harwell, Wantage, Frilford and Cumnor. It is scheduled to arrive at Elms Parade in Botley at 7:45pm, before returning to the depot.

On Saturday, the bus will begin its journey in Blackbird Leys at approximately 4pm, before moving on to Nuneham Courtenay, Berinsfield, Benson and Wallingford.

The bus is expected to remain in Wallingford between 4:50pm and 5pm, before then heading to Henley-on-Thames, Watlington, Chalgrove, Thame and Wheatley. It will then travel to Garsington prior to returning to the depot.

On 19th December, the bus will make its way through Oxford city centre from 4:20pm, arriving in Wolvercote at 4:40pm. The bus then goes on to Kidlington, Woodstock, Witney and Southmoor, before heading back to the depot.

The final journey on 20th December will include a tour of Oxford’s hospitals, for the benefit of staff and patients, as well as Wood Farm, Rose Hill, Littlemore and Blackbird Leys.

Luke Marion, Managing Director at City Sightseeing Oxford, said: “After being overwhelmed with votes, we’ve been able to curate four timetables for our popular Christmas Light Bus.

“We’ll be visiting a range of locations across the county and we’re looking forward to seeing as many people as possible turn out for this free event.”

The bus will be accompanied by a soundtrack of Christmas classics provided by Oxfordshire station Get Radio, while at stops, volunteers from Oxford Bus Group will give out treats, including vegan and gluten-free options, to kids and adults alike.

People are encouraged to get involved and share their Christmas Light Bus moments on social media, tagging the Oxford Bus Company and using the hashtag #OxfordXmasBus.

Visitors will unfortunately not be able to travel or get on the bus, while Oxford Bus Company reserves the right to deem any particular area unsuitable for the bus to visit.
