Bus operators celebrate National Careers Week

Oxford Bus Company and Thames Travel are celebrating National Careers Week 2023 by stepping up efforts to encourage people to join the public transport sector.
The operators heralded National Careers Week as an opportunity to highlight the varied careers available in the bus sector.
To mark the week, both operators confirmed they are hosting further bus driver recruitment open days in the county. The fast-track scheme is designed for suitable people to secure a driving job during the open day. The drop-in style events will help people learn more about life as a bus driver. Potential candidates can take a tour of the depot, speak to staff, have a medical assessment and receive help completing an application form.
Bus and coach drivers are an integral part of the UK and often at the heart of their local communities. Being a driver means playing an essential role keeping people connected with friends and family, making sure they can access essential services, and travel to work, education or other training opportunities. In addition to bus drivers, there are a wide variety of career opportunities in the sector ranging from operational and engineering through to customer services and administration.

Thames Travel is hosting a bus driver recruitment open day on Sunday 12th March between 10am and 3pm at its depot on Southmead Park, Didcot. While Oxford Bus Company is hosting one on Sunday 2nd April between 10am and 3pm at its depot on Watlington Road, Oxford.
Bus driver candidates need to have held a manual driving licence for just 12 months and have experience of providing excellent customer service skills. A variety of full and part time shift patterns are available to accommodate differing lifestyles are available. Once qualified, bus and coach drivers can earn up to £41,000 per year. Full training is provided for all successful candidates. Benefits include free bus travel for immediate family.
