27th November

On Friday, 27th November, head to the Ashmolean Museum for the third instalment in the Women in the Picture Book Talks.

As part of the Love & Legacy season at the museum, join author, independent academic and critic Catherine McCormack for a talk inspired by her celebrated book ‘Women in the Picture: Women, Art and the Power of Looking’.

Using the museum’s current Aphrodite exhibition as a jumping-off point, McCormack will be focusing on how the Ancient Greek goddess of love has shaped female identity, while also examining art of the Virgin Mary, and how images of her idealised motherhood have conditioned expectations of mothers and their positions in society.

The talk will be taking place in the Headley Lecture Theatre at the museum, but will also be available to view on Zoom for those unable to make it in person. Booking is essential, so secure your place now!
