Engineering Late Shift Supervisor

We’re looking for an Engineering Late Shift Supervisor to play a key role in leading our workshop operations. This is a hands-on, workshop-based position with supervisory responsibility, ensuring our vehicles meet the highest standards and are available when needed.

 

  • Ensure sufficient vehicles are available in the right condition to meet operational requirements
  • Coordinate the Engineering Team to:
    • Meet servicing schedules and maintain company standards
    • Repair and return out-of-service vehicles as quickly as possible
  • Carry out quality control checks on vehicles and maintenance records
  • Maintain accurate records and submit technical reports as required
  • Supervise all workshop activities, including:
    • Vehicle servicing
    • Defect rectification
    • Repairs and modifications
  • Lead and support a team including engineers, cleaners, and shunters
  • Provide technical advice to Engineering Managers on:
    • Engineering matters
    • Health & safety
    • Property and compliance
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering standards and safety performance
  • Ensure depot cleanliness, safety, and efficiency are maintained
  • Uphold strict quality control across all engineering output
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety procedures at all times
  • Monitor contractor compliance with company safety standards
  • Conduct inspections and address or report any defects
  • Contribute to and review risk assessments and COSHH documentation
  • Act as an ambassador for Oxford Bus Company and public transport
  • Promote company values and encourage team alignment
  • Undertake additional duties appropriate to the role as required

 

  • Level 3 qualification in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Experience in vehicle maintenance (PCV or HGV)
  • Good understanding of health & safety, DVSA standards, and risk assessments
  • Knowledge of automotive electrics and diagnostic systems
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience
  • Ability to manage, motivate, and work effectively within a team
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Reliable, flexible, and self-motivated
  • Full manual driving licence and own basic tools (specialist tools provided)
